Christmas is full of images of the Holy Family, choirs of angels, snow, baubles, bangles, and beads. Oh, and don't forget Santa Claus! There are so many symbolic images in our celebration of Christmas. When in Mexico for Christmas a few years ago, I was lucky enough to be able to take part in the celebration of Las Posadas. Las Posadas means "the inns" in Spanish, and is a reenactment of the search for a place to stay on the journey to Bethlehem for the census. As we all know, all the inns were full, and the Holy Family had to take shelter in a stable. In the Las Posadas celebration, the actors playing Joseph and Mary go from door to door asking for lodging, only to be turned away repeatedly, until they finally take shelter in a stable and Jesus is born and laid in the manger. These photos from the celebration of Las Posadas would make great Christmas cards, so why not order some cards from these photos for some completely unique holiday art this Christmas.
